In this tough economy, you absolutely must not forget to utilize what has been identified as the best way to find work. The traditional search methods are not producing the results you want because they are oversaturated with job hunters. Everyone starts their search with Career Builder, Yahoo Hot Jobs and Local Newspapers. These positions are often highly competitive and although you may be more than qualified, you may still not get the job or even an interview. Yet, some still believe this is the best way to find work.

Keep in mind that hiring the right employee can be just as frustrating for the employer as it is for the employee. Finding and hiring the best person is usually not the full time job of the person responsible for doing the hiring. Its additional work that sometimes falls very low on the priority list of the person responsible for hiring the perfect employee. Imagine the added stress of doing your work, the work of the soon to be hired employee and somehow finding time to review thousands of resumes, set up the interviews, conduct the interviews and hire the best person.

Understanding that just applying for the job is NOT the best way to find work gives you an advantage over the people that are spending all their time sending out thousands of resumes. This is a good example of what often happens in the hiring process. A department supervisor has a vacancy that the Human Resources Manager posts on Career Builder. The department supervisor receives hundreds or maybe even thousand of resume that they couldn't possibly have the time review. They may call a few candidates and set up a few interviews in between doing their other job assignments. They complain to a friend or coworker about how hard it is to find the right person for the job and in a few words, the problem is solved. The friend or coworker knows someone who applied for the job and gives them a great reference. Out of the thousand of people that submitted resumes, who do the think has the best chance of getting the job?

Many jobs are posted with the employer already knowing who they want to hire. Although submitting your resume for the job is a needed first step, it is not the best way to find work. So, if simply applying for the job is not the best way to find work, what is? Networking! Knowing the right person.

Although you may not think so, if you really thought about it, you probably know a few people that can help you in your search for work. If you attend church, club, sorority or fraternity meetings, you have hundreds of people that could possibly help. Communicate with these people. Let them know your employment status and ask them if they are will to assist you. Let them know which positions you applied for and ask them if they know anyone that works there. Even if they currently don't know of an open position but they may hear about an opening in the near future so, make sure you keep in touch.

Don't forget to followup when you apply for a position. If there is any way possible, try to speak with the person responsible for filling the position. If you are able to speak with this person, make sure you have done your research and come up with a few great questions. If you play your cards right, you should have no problem getting an interview.

Networking may be the best way to find work if you are looking for traditional work. If you are like many others that are exploring the option of finding a work from home or online job you will need to use a little different strategy. We have found that the best way to find the right work from home or online job is to do your research. Start by determining the type of work you want to do. Make sure to choose something that you enjoy. Be aware that there are many scams out there that promise millions from doing absolutely nothing.
