Web Marketing - Get The Basics Right
You can earn a steady income from web marketing, and many Internet marketers are doing just that. It's not easy, and it will not happen in a week, or even a month (despite the claims of some "gurus". And it will require regular maintenance and monitoring, if you want to make the most of it.

It will require a lot of work and it can also be time-consuming. Until your web presence is established, and you are getting a steady flow of buying visitors, you must put in the hours advertising and promoting your site. And if this is your first foray into web marketing, there is a mind-boggling array of products available that you can sell as an affiliate, or you can get exclusive "resell rights" for others. And of course, you can come up with your own products to sell. Bottom line though, is that there must be a demand for it.
However, no matter which product you will be selling, whether an affiliate offer or your own promotion, you should be aware of these 2 fundamental issues (And I am taking it for granted that you have your own website up and running):
1. You must drive traffic to your website
2. You must build an 'optin list'
As no. 1 (hopefully) increases more and more, so you will have more signups for your list, as prospects are drawn to your enticing , free offer.
It is possible to earn a good living on the Web if you don't have either list or website. For example, you can concentrate purely on sending traffic to a merchant's site and have affiliate commissions as your income, or sell products through an eBay shop or dropship site.
But for the majority of Intrenet marketers, it means having your own website on which sales are made, where you get optins to your list and generally keep updating with relevant content.
So cast an objective look at the home page, and ask yourself if it is a place that you would want to linger a while looking around. There must be something unique about it, something that will intrigue visitors and make them want to find out more. Have your "opt-in list" panel in a prominent position, near the top with a heading referring to a free offer. This could be a useful guide that you have resell rights to, or a weekly or monthly newsletter. If you can juxtapose a graphic of the report , better still.
One of your goals should be to get repeat visitors to your website. The site's overall appearance is one of the main determining factors, so it deserves a lot of attention. And the other factor is content - the majority of browsers are looking for fresh content, and so are the search engines. It's probably the best way to get a steadily increasing flow of inbound traffic.
Trackbacks are another great marketing tool - that is, HTML links to other blogs which have content relevant to yours. They help to increase visibility with search engines, and with other readers.
